Government Degree College, Ravulapalem has been started on 31-08-1981 in a small Zilla Parishad Elementary School Building. Sri Padala Bhaskara Reddy was the then president of the College Development Committee. B.A., and B.Com., courses have been sanctioned with a strength of 80 in each class. As per G.O.M.s.No.1214 Edn., dt.26-08-81, 14 posts were sanctioned. Later on, 4 posts i.e., 2+1 in Commerce and 1 in Economics as additional posts were sanctioned. From its inception, rule of reservation in the admissions has been scrupulously followed and no student has been denied of seeking admission.

The Philanthropic services of Sri Padala Bhaskara Reddy, the then President, and College Development Committee were note worthy. An amount of Rs.5 lakhs was sanctioned by the Govt. of A.P under the scheme of Telugu Grameena Kranthi Padakam., for the construction of College Building. In 1986 the College was shifted from the Zillah Parishad Elementary School Building to its newly constructed building, which is on the bank of the river Gowtami Godavari with pleasant surroundings and greenery near the National Highway- 5 at Gowthami Bridge.

In 1998 the College building along with the vacant land of 5 acres have been registered in the name of the Governor, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh under the supervision of the then College Principal, Sri Y. Venkata Rao. In the same year B.Sc., Computers and B.Com Restructured Courses were sanctioned to this College converting the conventional B.Com course into B.Com Computers and Tax Procedure. Previous sanctioned strength of 80 each has been revised to 60 to B.A., 40 to B.Com Tax procedure and 40 to B.Com Computers and 30 for B.Sc. course.

As per the proceedings Rc.No.163/A11-1/2003-04 (B) dated 23-09-2003 of the Commissioner of the Collegiate Education, A.P, Hyderabad, this college was sanctioned Rs.15, 00,000 for the construction of the five additional class rooms. During the 10th Plan, as per the proceedings F.No.1-1 (012)/03(SERO/UGC) dated 25-03-2003, the U.G.C. sanctioned Rs.4, 16,160 for the construction of physics laboratory, under the college developmental grants.

The other donors like Dr.Bobba Jayasri, eminent doctor, Ravulapalem, Sri K.V.V.Satyanarayana Reddy, the then Sarpanch, Ravulapalem and Sri Dwarampudi Sitaram, Ravulapalem are sacrificed a lot for the construction of classrooms in the college.

The College situated on the bank of the sacred river Godavari (Gowthami) and the Gateway of Konaseema i.e., Ravulapalem. It has a good record of academicians and students. This college produced an I.R.S officer during the year 2005 namely Sri.Kadali Srinivas who came from a poor agriculturist family. This college is the backbone on of light and knowledge to the people of Konaseema, surrounded by mango and banana grooves with historic and cultural heritage. As on today this college is offering educational services to 377 students in and around of Ravulapalem.
